Kingston, Jamaica — The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) and One on One Education Ltd., the Caribbean's leading edtech solutions provider, recently launched the One Academy AI Lesson Plan Generator, a groundbreaking tool designed totransform lesson planning and empower educators across the island.

Through this new partnership with the JTA, all members will now receive free access to generate lesson plans, handouts, or assignments every month, beginning June 1, 2025 in keeping with the allotted credits.

The announcement was made at the Helen Stills Professional Development Day, held on May 8, 2025, at the Pegasus Hotel, under the theme Wellness 360. The event, which focused on the mental health and well-being of teachers, served as a timely and fitting platform to unveil a solution that gives back to educators one of their most valuable resources – their ‘time’.

Dr. Mark Smith, JTA President, shared at the event,  "Our profession is one that oftentimes requires us to go above and beyond the call of duty. It requires us to expend a lot of our personal time, beyond the hours employed, to prepare and plan for lessons. Our time is often constantly under pressure — the time for our family, our friends, and interests outside of school. We must create the time to take care of ourselves, to re-center ourselves. When I was Parish President, I facilitated a survey to examine key sources of stress for our teachers. The results were clear, one of the greatest sources of stress for most teachers was the process of lesson planning. As a thought leader and a problem solver, I started contemplating how we could change this dynamic. I consequently, reached out to Ricardo Allen to develop a solution…this was the start of a partnership which delivered the solution we celebrate today."

Later, he added, “This partnership marks a major milestone for the JTA, updating our membership benefits to reflect the digital age, one where we must embrace smarter tools that make our work lighter and our impact greater. One Academy’s AI innovation gives JTA members the gift of time; not just for Teachers’ Day, but a gift that keeps on giving.”

For One Academy, leveraging technology to support personalised teaching and learning is key to achieving better educational outcomes. Built with teachers, for teachers, the AI Lesson Plan Generator uses UnaAI Intelligence, One Academy’s proprietary engine, trained specifically on the local curriculum to ensure relevance and alignment with regional standards. Teachers can instantly generate lesson plans, handouts, and assignments tailored to their subject areas and student needs.

This partnership with the JTA is a strategic alignment with the association’s mission to support our membership in the execution of their duties, promote the professional, financial, and social advancement of its members, while raising educational standards across Jamaica.

Commencing June 1, 2025 members at the secondary level can log on to One Academy and begin using their 100 free monthly credits to create high-quality, classroom-ready content with just a few clicks. This launch follows a successful pilot phase, where over 500 high school teachers tested the platform with the support of the JTA. Their feedback has helped to shape the tool into what is now a powerful, teacher-friendly solution built to alleviate stress associated with planning.

Ricardo Allen, CEO and Founder of One on One, shared his excitement about the impact the platform is already having on the lives of educators.

“Last year, a teacher came to me and said, ‘Thank you for this AI Lesson Plan Generator (in reference to a preview of the application in the JTA’s Annual Conference in 2024 at the Ocean Coral Spring Hotel in Trelawny).” Later in the day, her husband came to me and said, ‘Thank you! I didn’t have my wife on Sundays.’ Burnout and stress are rising. Teaching is no longer a job; it’s a 24/7 mental load. The AI Lesson Plan Generator gives you back your time,” he said.

He added, “I’m incredibly proud and excited to see the real, tangible difference we’re making for teachers. And this is just the beginning. Soon, teachers will also be able to generate AI-powered presentations, access interactive learning activities, and benefit from the UnaAI Co-Pilot, a smart assistant designed to support planning and instructional delivery. We’re committed to continuously evolving this tool to meet teachers where they are and support where they want to go.”

While this initial rollout is focused on high school teachers, primary school teachers will gain access in the near future with early childhood educators following shortly, thereafter. Additionally, 101 high schools currently using One Academy as part of the National Virtual School, will also have the opportunity to benefit from a suite of advanced tools, including skills gap assessments, live streamed lessons, and on-demand learning resources.

The One Academy AI Lesson Plan Generator is now live and to celebrate the launch, all teachers are invited to register and immediately generate up to 25 free lesson plans, handouts, or assessments. Early adopters will also have the chance to win exciting spot prizes, including weekend getaways, gift vouchers, and more.

This collaboration between One Academy and the JTA reflects a shared commitment to improving teaching and learning across the nation—empowering educators with innovative tools to reduce workload, close learning gaps, and enhance classroom outcomes.
