JTA Regrets the Passing of  Past President, Wesley Hewling

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) regrets the passing of Past President Wesley Augustus Findlater Hewling.

Mr. Hewling, 96, died Saturday, June 27, 2015 at his home in Bogue, St. James.

During his lifetime and his more than 53 years service to education, he also served as the fifth President of the JTA, 1969-1970.

He was a committed member of the Association up to the point of his death and was fondly referred to, in the West, as “Mr. JTA and Mr. Education”.

He served as headmaster of the Corinaldi Primary in St. James, Board Chairman of Mt. Alvernia High and Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College, and President of several District Associations in both St. James and Hanover where he served during his teaching career. He was Regional Officer and Trustee of the JTA for many years. In addition to his local contribution, Mr. Hewling also contributed to Caribbean unity by being Jamaica’s voice when he served as Secretary of the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) in the early years.

The veteran Educator also had his own share of accolades as he was the recipient of several awards including the Order of Distinction, Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation for service to Education, Roll of Honour (JTA) and  Musgrave Medal (Bronze).

The Presidents, General Council, Central Executive and other volunteers as well as the JTA Secretariat express condolences to his Family and pray for God’s strength during this time of bereavement.

Wesley Augustus Findlater Hewling, the JTA will always remember you.

Walk Good!
