Members of the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA), in schools island-wide, are this week casting their ballots to elect a President-Elect for the upcoming conference year, 2015-2016.

Four candidates are vying to get majority of the votes of the JTA’s twenty four thousand (24,000) strong membership.

They are Principal of the Monegue College in St. Ann, Howard Issacs, Principal of Friendship Primary School in St. Catherine, Collington Powell, Claudette James, teacher of Denham town High in Kingston and Ansell Palmer, teacher at Lowe River Primary and Jnr. High in Trelawny.

Voting is scheduled for June 22-26, 2015. However, JTA members in schools across the island have chosen two specific days - Tuesday and Wednesday, June 23 & 24 to cast their votes.

Counting of the ballots cast will be done at the JTA Head Office on Tuesday, June 30, after which a preliminary count will be announced.

The winner of the President-Elect elections will be proclaimed at the Annual Conference of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association to be held August 17-19 at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort and Spa in St James.
