Election of the President-Elect

A President-Elect is elected annually and serves for a year in that position. He/She assumes the Presidency at the end of that year. The election of the President-Elect takes place during the third full week in June of each year.

All full, life and retired members of the Association are entitled to vote. The Presiding Officer who may/may not be the Contact Teacher carries out voting within the Institution. The Returning Officer in each parish makes the arrangements for the election within the Parish.

The ballots are counted at a special meeting of the Central Executive. The official announcement of the results of the election is made at the Annual Conference and the successful candidate declared the President-Elect for the ensuing conference year.

How the Association is Governed

The policies that guide the Association in its operations and position on public issues are set at the annual delegates conference. Between conferences the business of the Association is transacted by the General Council which meets quarterly and the Central Executive Committee which meets monthly.

The Council is made up of the elected officers (President, President-Elect, Immediate Past President); Elected representatives of Interest Groups; the Trustees and the Administrative Staff. The Central Executive comprises the elected officers, one representative from each Parish Association, at least three (3) Trustees, twenty (20) co-opted members and the Administratives Staff.
