Good afternoon my colleagues and friends.  It is a blessing for me to bring warm Christmas greetings on behalf of the wonderful Jamaica Teachers’ Association.

“Christmas is not just a day, it is a frame of mind…” so says Valentine Davies.  Winston Churchill also reminds us that “Christmas is a season not only of rejoicing but of reflection.”

As we reflect on all that transpired throughout the year, let us focus on the true meaning of Christmas.  Let us give thanks for life, for family, for friends, and for the impact of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association on national development.

While you enjoy the festivities of the season, it would be valuable to reflect on your personal achievements throughout the year… to remember the good times and bad… the challenges, and how you have overcome.  Let us celebrate the glory and honour of Christ.

As we enjoy the comfort of our home, food, friend and fellowship, I must remind you of our theme: Empowering Educators – Retooling, Innovating, Networking for Sustainable Development.” Let us zoom in on the opportunities that lie ahead.   As we celebrate Christmas 2019, let us move speedily and formulate a plan of action earmarked to save this, and future generations from the frequent atrocities which are fuelled by anger and committed against our fellow Jamaicans.

As we close out the year, let us remember the grieving families and friends who have lost loved ones.  Let us strive to create an environment built on social and emotional intelligence.

Mother Theresa reminds us that, “it is not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”  On behalf of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, I wish you peace and love for Christmas 2019 and pray that they last throughout the New year.

JTA wishes you a merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year.
