Fay E. Saunders is Dead

Publication Date:
Thursday, March 16, 2017

The JTA is saddened by the passing of past President Mrs. Fay E. Saunders.

Mrs. Saunders was the first female President and also the first President to have served for two terms in the JTA, 1968 and 1971.

She also served as a Secretary General from the 1st January, 1975 - 30th November, 1985.

She died earlier today (March 16,2017) at her residence in St. Andrew after a long illness. She would have been 91 in November.

Mrs. Saunders can be characterized as a trail blazer in many ways and can be best described as a phenomenal woman.

She will be sadly missed and will remain as one of the JTA’s pioneer leaders at a time when females were not at the forefront of union leadership.

Condolences to the family and may her soul find rest.
